WITHHOLD, v.t. pret. and pp. withheld. with and hold.

1. TO hold back; to restrain; to keep from action.

Withhold--your hasty hand.

If our passions may be withheld.

2. To retain; to keep back; not to grant; as, to withhold assent to a proposition. The sun does not withhold his light.
