Default Smith & Wesson Model 500

I've been reading about Obama seeking to bring back the Bill Clinton Automatic Weapons Ban. So we went to the gun shop yesterday just to look around, and while we were looking at 1911's I couldn't help but notice a giant handgun in the case, I have shot a Desert Eagle before, but this was much bigger, the largest handgun I have ever seen in a store.

The guy took it out of the case for us and I held the the biggest, heaviest, most powerful factory-production double-action revolver in the world. I felt like Dirty Harry, only now I had a bigger gun than Harry.

SMITH & WESSON MODEL 500

The overall length of the Model 500 is 15 INCHES and the empty weight is 4.5 POUNDS.

The .50-cal. cartridges they hold are almost 2 in. long. Load five of them and the total weight of the handgun climbs to 5 POUNDS.

Definitely overkill for most people.
You have to have a giant paw to really handle it well, and I would never buy something like that, I prefer the much smaller .45.

But the S&W 500 is still an amazing weapon, we're talking 2,600 ft. lb. of muzzle energy from a handgun, and that is incredible! The night flash and recoil alone would stun most people...

It's not a very practical weapon, but I wouldn't mind renting one at the range.

I bet you'd think it was practical if you had a grizzly charging at you and that gun in your hand

Man, that's nuts. I've heard guys say that the 338 Lapua wasn't big enough for an Elephant and the Lapua is a huge round! I guess diameter makes a difference with big game.

Peace and Love,

Yes, we have quite the problem in the Midwest with elephants and rhinos running through the streets and into our homes!
