Mine is probably
"Christ is All" 1. I entered once a home of care, For age and penury were there, Yet peace and joy withal; I asked the lonely mother whence Her helpless widowhood's defence. She told me, "Christ was all." Christ is all, all in all, She told me "Christ was all". 2. I stood beside a dying bed, Where lay a child with aching head, Waiting for Jesus' call, I marked his smile, 'twas sweet as May, And as his spirit passed away, He whispered, "Christ is all." Christ is all, all in all, He whispered "Christ is all." 3. I saw the martyr at the at the stake, The flames could not his courage shake, Nor death his soul appall, I asked him whence his strength was giv'n, He looked triumphantly to Heav'n, And answered "Christ is all." Christ is all, all in all, He answered, "Christ is all." 4. I saw the gospel herald go, To Afric's sand and Greenland's snow, To save from Satan's thrall: No home nor life he counted dear, Midst wants and perils owned no fear. He felt that "Christ is all." Christ is all, all in all, He felt that "Christ is all." 5. I dreamed that hoary time had fled; The earth and sea gave up their dead, A fire dissolved this ball; I saw the church's ransom'd throng, I heard the burden of their song. 'twas "Christ is all in all." Christ is all, all in all, 'Twas Christ is all in all. 6. Then come to Christ, oh! come today. The Father, Son, and Spirit say; The Bride repeats the call; For he will cleanse your guilty stains, His love will sooth your weary pains, For "Christ is all in all." Christ is all, all in all, For "Christ is all in all." Verse 2 and 3 Get me everytime! |

There is a Fountain
1. There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel's veins; and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; and sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. 2. The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away. Wash all my sins away, wash all my sins away; and there may I, though vile as he, wash all my sins away. 3. Dear dying Lamb, thy precious blood shall never lose its power till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more. Be saved, to sin no more, be saved, to sin no more; till all the ransomed church of God be saved, to sin no more. 4. E'er since, by faith, I saw the stream thy flowing wounds supply, redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die. And shall be till I die, and shall be till I die; redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die. 5. Then in a nobler, sweeter song, I'll sing thy power to save, when this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave. Lies silent in the grave, lies silent in the grave; when this poor lisping, stammering tongue lies silent in the grave. I also like Come Thou Fount 1. Come, thou Fount of every blessing, tune my heart to sing thy grace; streams of mercy, never ceasing, call for songs of loudest praise. Teach me some melodious sonnet, sung by flaming tongues above. Praise the mount! I'm fixed upon it, mount of thy redeeming love. 2. Here I raise mine Ebenezer; hither by thy help I'm come; and I hope, by thy good pleasure, safely to arrive at home. Jesus sought me when a stranger, wandering from the fold of God; he, to rescue me from danger, interposed his precious blood. 3. O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be! Let thy goodness, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee. Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it, prone to leave the God I love; here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above. |

The following hymn ever speaks to my heart. I consider this to be the "life-blood" or "theme song" of my ministry -- for "the love of Christ"! (2 Corinthians 5:14)
MORE LOVE TO THEE Eliz*a*beth P. Pren*tiss, 1856. Pren*tiss wrote these words dur*ing a per*i*od of ill*ness, but kept them to her*self. When she showed them to her hus*band 13 years lat*er, he en*cour*aged her to pub*lish them. How*ard Doane saw the re*sult*ing pamph*let, and wrote mu*sic for the words. Music: W. Howard Doane, Songs of De*vo*tion, 1870 More love to Thee, O Christ, more love to Thee! Hear Thou the prayer I make on bended knee. This is my earnest plea: More love, O Christ, to Thee; More love to Thee, more love to Thee! Once earthly joy I craved, sought peace and rest; Now Thee alone I seek, give what is best. This all my prayer shall be: More love, O Christ to Thee; More love to Thee, more love to Thee! Let sorrow do its work, come grief or pain; Sweet are Thy messengers, sweet their refrain, When they can sing with me: More love, O Christ, to Thee; More love to Thee, more love to Thee! Then shall my latest breath whisper Thy praise; This be the parting cry my heart shall raise; This still its prayer shall be: More love, O Christ to Thee; More love to Thee, more love to Thee! And can it be that I should gain
by Charles Wesley It's too bad that many hymnbooks don't contain the whole song... And can it be that I should gain An interest in the Savior’s blood! Died He for me who caused His pain! For me who Him to death pursued? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? Amazing love! How can it be, That Thou, my God, shouldst die for me? ’Tis mystery all: th’Immortal dies! Who can explore His strange design? In vain the firstborn seraph tries To sound the depths of love divine. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more. ’Tis mercy all! Let earth adore; Let angel minds inquire no more. He left His Father’s throne above (so free, so infinite His grace!), Emptied Himself of all but love, And bled for Adam’s helpless race. ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! ’Tis mercy all, immense and free, For O my God, it found out me! Long my imprisoned spirit lay, Fast bound in sin and nature’s night; Thine eye diffused a quickening ray; I woke, the dungeon flamed with light; My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. My chains fell off, my heart was free, I rose, went forth, and followed Thee. No condemnation now I dread; Jesus, and all in Him, is mine; Alive in Him, my living Head, And clothed in righteousness divine, Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own. Bold I approach th’eternal throne, And claim the crown, through Christ my own. |

Some good picks there! And can it be! Come thou fount! There is a fountain.
Great words, but because they are deeper and richer than most stuff played today, they get ignored by the "7-11" crowd. [7 words sang 11 times over.] Try these: "My Hope is built" http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/m/y/myhopeis.htm "Jesus Christ is risen today!" http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/j/c/jcirtoda.htm "Holy,Holy,Holy!" http://www.cyberhymnal.org/htm/h/o/holyholy.htm |

"If We Never Meet Again This Side Of Heaven"
Soon we'll come to the end of life's journey
And perhaps we'll never meet anymore 'Til we gather in heaven's bright city Far away on that beautiful shore If we never meet again this side of heaven As we struggle through this world and its strife There's another meeting place somewhere in heaven By the side of the river of life Where the roses bloom forever And where separation come no more If we never meet again this side of heaven I will meet you on that beautiful shore Oh so often we are parted with sorrow And action often quietens our pain But we never shall sorrow in heaven God be with you till we meet again |

Well this is always a tough one for me, to pick a favorite of somany of the greatest hyms ever written,
Well lets see, I guess my top 5 right now would be; 1. It is well with my soul 2. Victory in Jesus (Proabably one of the main hyms that helped lead me to the Lord) 3. Living For Jesus 4. A mighty Fortress is our God "A mighty fortress is our God, a bulwark never failing, our helper he amid the flood, of mortal ills prevailing, For still our ancient foe, doth seem to work us woe, his craft and power are great, and armed with cruel hate One earth is not his Equall. Did we in our own strength confiede, our striving would be losing, Were not the right man on our side the man of God's own choosing. Dust ask who that my be? Christ Jesus it is he, Lord Sabbaoth is his name, from age to age the same, he must win the battle. That word above all earthly powers, no thanks to them, abideth; the Spirit and the gifts are ours, thru him who with us sideth. Let goods and kindred go, this mortal life also; the body they may kill (I'm not possitive on this, but I willing to bet that either Luther wrote this shortly after the diet of Worms, or at leased he had it in mind when we wrote this.); God's truth abideth still; his kingdom is forever. 5. And Can it be. |

I'm really fond of all the hymns that were written by the Anabaptist martyr's in the 16th century Switzerland (and elsewhere). The most notable (and my favorite) comes from George Blaurock, Christian missionary and a leader of the Swiss Brethren, on occassions in 1525 and later, when arrested, lifted up his voice in hymns to God while being led away to torture and imprisonment; finally when facing death in 1529 he wrote and sang his Schwanenlied,
"Darum so will ich singen, Zu Lob dem Namen dein, Und ewiglich verkunden Die Gnad, die mir erschien," "Therefore will I be singing In blessing of Thy name, Eternally praise bringing Of grace that to me came," -- Ausbund No. 30; and The Christian Hymnary No. 417. I've kept it short since there are 13 parts in total to this hymn, which is not an uncommon thing for the hymns written by these 16th century martyr's. In midst the flames of the stake that devoured his mortal body, George Blaurock glorified his Maker who "giveth songs in the night!" Oh to take on this final baptism with such joy and worship, and utter reverence for the Almighty Jehovah God! for Jesus' sake, Stephen |
