Origen's influence on 1Corinthians 6:9
1 Corinthians 6:9-11 gives a sequential list of different characteristics of people who will not inherit the kingdom of God. The fourth characteristic in the KJV is "effeminate." The meaning of the word translated as "effeminate" as listed in Strong's Concordance is "of uncertain affinity' and "soft, fine." The NIV changes this word to "male prostitute," which is redundant with the fifth characteristic and is not consistent with the original meaning; no sex act is required to be effeminate. The NKJV changes "effeminate" to "homosexuals" which is also redundant and requires a sex act to validate the label. Both homosexuals and gigilos can be either soft and effeminate or strong, tough and macho. This change in wording is a distinct change in meaning and fits in with Origen's perversion of scripture objectives as his operation made him as much like a woman as the available technology would allow (I don't think you could get hormone injections circa 300 AD). This change takes him? and his followers off the list of people who will not inheret the Kingdom of God. Unfortunately, this change also removes the scriptural guidance for people associated with contemporary "gnostic Christianity" who would be warned of the eternal consequences of involvement in a lifestyle, or maintaining an attitude, which requires men to be effeminate.
