Aloha brother Harley,

Here are a few recommendations to begin with - I will give you a more complete list after I compile it:

The "Which Bible?" Issue - "Forever Settled" by Jack Moorman (Nowadays - probably the best "first book" on the subject). or "Bible Version Manual" by Donald T. Clarke (another excellent "first book" - if you can find it). Any Books by Edward Hills, David Otis Fuller, W. P. Grady, Thomas D. Holland, Floyd Nolan Jones, Douglas D. Stauffer, etc. (There's lots more)

Dispensationalism - "Dispensationalism" by David E. Walker (an excellent "primer" on how to "rightly divide" the word of God); Clarence Larkin; and Peter Ruckman.

Cults, Apostasy, & Psychiatry/Psychology - Books and articles by Dave Hunt & T.A. McMahon {The Berean Call: http://www.thebereancall.org/} (One of the best sources on the Apostasy in the churches today). A word of caution - brothers Hunt & McMahon are not as strong on the King James Bible as some of us are.

Psychology/Psychology - Books by Martin & Diedre Bobgan (absolutely the best source for information on the infiltration of the perverse influence of psychiatry and psychology in the churches): http://www.psychoheresy-aware.org/mainpage.html {Quite a few online PDF books available}

Emerging Church Movement {ECM} - "Faith Undone" by Roger Oakland (Excellent source on the "seeker churches" or the "Emerging Church Movement" {ECM} that is sweeping across America - Rick Warren, etc.)

Education & Schooling - Any Book by Samuel Blumenfeld {Rudolph Flesch John Taylor Gatto, Neil Postman - not Christians, but excellent sources}

Evolution & Creation - "The Evolution Handbook" (992 pages refuting evolution on every point) "Science vs. Evolution" (1,008 pages pages presents the case against the theories of evolution and the beginning of matter), both by Vance Ferrel (very reasonably priced!) - More books by Vance Ferrel (Online 3 Volume Encyclopedia about evolution, etc.) @ http://evolution-facts.org/ Any Books by Henry M. Morris or Harry Rimmer.

Please Note: I do not recommend men - I recommend some of their books. I try not to glorify, commend, or idolize men - and I do not follow them. One of the curses of modern day Christianity is "respect of persons" and the elevation of Christian "personalities" (pastors, evangelists, teachers, psychiatrists/psychologists, etc.)

We are all brethren, and as such, we should be seeking to glorify and extol the Lord Jesus Christ and His Holy word - NOT men!

Understood, and I agree. Those men who have taught me the most over the years have said the same thing.

Thank you, between this and the King James Defense list you posted for me in my other thread I have a very comprehensive reading list.

I'm pretty sure David Walker attended Ruckman's Bible school. Does his book pretty much mirror Ruckman's teaching on dispensationalism? Does it give additional information or go more in depth. I believe dispensationalism is the only way to rightly divide God's Word and you'll never fully understand God's until you understand rightly dividing. I had seen Walker's book advertised on another site and had considered getting it.

I think every Chrisitian should read the following books:

For Many Shall Come in My Name
by Ray Yungen
ISBN 978-0-9721512-9-0

A Time Of Departing
by Ray Yungen
ISBN: 978-0-9721512-7-6

Faith Undone
by Roger Oakland
ISBN: 978-0-9791315-1-6

Deceived on Purpose
by Warren Smith
ISBN: 0-9763492-0-5

Also four books by David Cloud:
- Purpose Driven or Scripture Driven
- Contemplative Mysticism
- What is the Emerging Church
- The New Age Tower Of Babel

Plus here are some sites with good information. Please be aware that with the exception of the "Way of Life" (David Cloud) site, none of these are KJV only and some are reformed in their theology:

Aloha brother,

David Walker gives a short history of Dispensationalism and the men who believed and taught it (very early on). He also writes about "hyper" or "ultra" Dispensationalism (Greek & Latin for the same thing).

He gives a good overview of most of the major variations involved in the doctrine of Dispensationalism.

This book is not like Bullinger's or Stam's works - tedious, pedantic, and "dry as dust". It's a good read and easy to understand, and I highly recommend it, whether a person is familiar with Dispensationalism, or whether they are looking for an excellent introductory work.

I know nothing about Walker's personal history, but I will say that his book is very informative - without getting "lost" in the speculations, suppositions, and opinions that often accompany works on Dispensationalism.

What would you recommend, on the subject of dispensationalism, for someone just finishing up with Stauffer's One Book Rightly Divided?

Peace and Love,
Stephen

Brother Stephen,
Why not try Dr. Dave Reese after Stauffer? One of my Filipino Bible instructors told me he and Stauffer both graduated in his school.

See his books here: http://www.right-division.com/5.html

Aloha brother Stephen,

I personally think that Larkin and Ruckman are the two best sources on Dispensationalism.

However, brother Walker's book gives plenty enough information about the subject to satisfy most Christian's interests - unless someone wants to go further "in-depth" on the subject, in which case I think that a person can not go too far afield with Larkin and Ruckman. {Keeping in mind that nobody's perfect - And no one man is the repository of all truth.}

In the more distant past George Hawkins Pember, Ethelbert William Bullinger, and Cornelius Stam were excellent sources on Dispensationalism. However Bullinger and Stam became "HYPERS" (Hyper-dispensationalists or Ultra-dispensationalists) - that is they ended up "dividing" the word of God up so much (chopping up the Bible in such a way that practically the whole Bible ends up not applying to Christians) that they often make the word of God of none effect!

We have to be careful (extremely careful) that we don't get carried away with Dispensationalism (or any other "pet doctrine" - Prophecy, Tongues, Healing, Hair Covering, Hair Length, Deeper Life, Unity, Love, Evangelicalism, etc., etc., and yes, even King James Onlyism) to the point where we don't maintain the "balance" {Faith, Love, and Truth} that God would have us maintain in our lives.

In order to maintain that "balance" we have to keep our eye on the Lord Jesus Christ at all times and look to His Holy word (and not men) for the answers to all the issues of life.

As I have said before - Please Note: I do not recommend men - I recommend some of their books. I try not to glorify, commend, or idolize men - and I do not follow them. One of the curses of modern day Christianity is "respect of persons" and the elevation of Christian "personalities" (pastors, evangelists, teachers, psychiatrists/psychologists, etc.)

Always remember: God wants OBEDIENCE from His people not SACRIFICE! He wants FRUIT in our lives, for if we have FRUIT - the WORKS will follow.

Some of the best info I have found on dispensationalism has come from articles on the net (folks like Timothy Morton). Here's a site for a church in Florida that has some pretty good sermons you can listen to (go to sermons and topics):

http://www.daytonabeachbaptist.com/index.cfm

Now this guy teaches that baptism for the Christian is a matter of liberty so some would say he leans toward hyper-dispensationalism, but I think I have a pretty good handle on sound doctrine and his sermons present some good instruction.

I didn't mean to imply anything negative about David Walker being a graduate of Ruckman's school. I have many of Ruckman's commentaries and books and have benfited from them although Ruckman isn't the greatest writer so maybe Walker presented the topic in a more clearer manner.

I've not read Walker; but if that be the case, Walker is to Ruckman as Stauffer is to Reese (although I noticed several variations).

By the way, I, too, benefited a lot from Ruckman's books. Thanks to Brother George!
