Affordable nuclear power plants
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environmen...ors-los-alamos
I'd like to get one and put it in the ground right next to the septic tank. Then I could sell my neighbors cheap electricity. |

I to am facinated by nuclear power, but with the advances made in multi-layered photovoltaic cells it just seems silly to bother with these. Also those new solar towers are extremely efficient. They also are making new wind turbines that are becoming more and more efficient. So with all these advances in sustainable power sources, nuclear is looking like out dated technology in my opinion. Another problem with nuclear power is that it basically takes our dependency on middle eastern oil (although we actually get most of our oil from Canada) and replaces it with a dependency upon nuclear fuels found in the Congos and Canada (again). American needs to become independant. I think this is looking more and more possible with the previously stated technologies in developement, as well as the HUGE stockpiles of coal we have, which is able to be converted into diesel.

I think Al Gore is in Obamas right pocket. There are Nuclear waste disposal / storage concerns, and battery technology is still not quite there. We need alternatives. Gas is at $1.99 a gallon now, what will it be in January 2009? Obama still opposes offshore drilling. Can't use our own coal ,can't drill offshore, can't build nuclear plants, can't harm the polar bears, what is left.
I guess we will continue to be slaves to ME oil. Will tire gauges be a part of a new stimulus package? |

Why bother with tire gauges? He's going to take our cars and give them to those who can't afford one anyhow!

Anywho, you know what I was thinking about when I read this thread? Someone needs to create cheap coal burning boilers that generate electricity that can be put in the backyard. Although I'm a bit saddened to hear about whats happening to the Polar Bears, I don't think humans are the cause of this climate change. I think we've contributed to the change, but the change is inevitable and we should be focussed on how to respond to these changes instead of how to prevent them. Peace and Love, Stephen |
