The Word also tells us the people wanted a King to rule over them...thats how they ended up with Saul.

No doubt. It's one thing to play being President; it is an entirely different thing to actually be a President. And U.S. Presidents should not bow to the King of Saudi Arabia or give the Queen of England an ipod.
