Default NKJV Translators

Guys,

I was talking to a Knife of the Lord ( Sword of the Lord ) boy yesterday. He was telling me how Godly John R. Rice and Curtis Hutson were and how they always stood for the AV and opposed all MV's. I sent him this below and never got a reply back. I wonder why?

Take notice to the name listed under " North American Overview Committee. " You will proudly see Dr. Curtis Hutson ~ President Sword of the Lord ~ Murfreesboro, Tennessee As we all know being part of the North American Overview Committee for the NKJV make you a real big AV man. Also take notice to this paragraph.

To maintain a singleness of purpose, each person was commissioned only after pledging commitment to the basic aims of the project, and signing a statement of faith declaring belief that the Scriptures in their entirety are the uniquely inspired Word of God, free from error in their original autographs.

For some odd reason the " Knife of the Lord " boy has yet to reply back about Curtis Hutson's bold stand for " uniquely inspired Word of God the original autographs " and by pitching up with other Godly men to clear up a few " errors " in the AV. I do think their are a few errors, but not in the AV. The only errors I know of were in the mind of this " Knife of the Lord " boy for not knowing the truth and in Curtis Hutson's mind for trying to mess with God's word.

NKJV Translators

Quote:
Several years ago (about 1991) I sent a letter to Thomas Nelson Publishers ~ Nelson Place at Elm Hill Pike ~ PO Box 141000 ~ Nashville, TN 37214-1000. I asked them to send me the names and qualifications of the translators of the NKJV. Below is what they sent me in reply. (I scanned the document into my PC using my new scanner with OCR software.)

Some information was also taken from: Arthur L. Farstad. The New King James Version in the Great Tradition (Nashville: Thomas Nelson, 1993), pp. 141-159. This book is available from: The Majority Text Society ~ PO Box 141289 ~ Dallas, TX 75214.

The Scholarly Team

To fulfill the purpose of the New King James Version of the Bible, over 130 scholars, editors, church leaders, and Christian laity were commissioned to work on the project.

To maintain a singleness of purpose, each person was commissioned only after pledging commitment to the basic aims of the project, and signing a statement of faith declaring belief that the Scriptures in their entirety are the uniquely inspired Word of God, free from error in their original autographs.

You would think that with all of these brilliant minds, they would have not have made so many mistakes.

Oh, it's a work-in-progress... yeah, that's it!

Keep in mind that it is somewhat of a motley crew. Most of them didn't even believe they were translating the pure Greek text. You have folks there who have alexandrian concepts, you have majority text folks. You have "I dunno" folks. Maybe there are a few who are at least pure-TR. (I found one who might qualify, out of about seven .. granted a few names stood out whcih clearly are far from TR.)

And then you have translators of the night who work on any available project (e.g. ESV, NIV one night, NKJV the next).

Shalom,
Steven

'Translators of the night' was as delicate as I could write for those who walk on different sides of the street, hacking up (the Bible) for lucre with one text & translation today, with another tomorrow.

Shalom,
Steven
